Review: Tesla All-Weather Interior Set for Model S

Tesla recently “redesigned and improved” the All-Weather Interior Set for Model S, available through the company’s online store for $245.

Other all-weather type mats are available for the Model S ranging from the cheap looking Lloyd Rubbertite All-Weather Floor Mats listed for $129.80, to the laser-cut WeatherTech Model S FloorLiner at $249.90.

I personally like to purchase products made by the manufacturer before considering something from a third party so I went ahead and purchased the redesigned Model S All-Weather Set directly from Tesla.

Contents

The package includes a driver side floor liner mat, a passenger side floor liner mat, and a 2nd row floor liner mat. I kept the shipping box since my stock Tesla floor mats fit perfectly inside of it and it can be used as a storage container during winter months.

A small manual with step-by-step installation instructions for both the front and rear mats is included within the package.

Tesla Redesign

According to the product description from the Tesla store, “the newly redesigned Tesla Model S All-Weather Interior Set is custom made using the latest in digital laser measurements for your Model S. This extreme-duty floor protection covers and protects your Model S by keeping it free from dirt and spills. The floor mats are made from thermoplastic elastomer material which has a rigid core for unbeatable strength and easy cleanups.”

Compared to the original Tesla All-Weather Interior Set, “some improvements include the addition of retention patches to the front mats for ease of installation, as well as increased wall height to better protect the front floors of the vehicle.” Tesla seems to have listened to their customers as the major complaint about many of its floor mats is the notorious “mat flop.”

Initial Impressions

The 3-piece set looks very elegant. The grey looks nearly identical to the Tesla Model S floor and liner. The TESLA logo is prominently displayed on both of the front mats. I can’t deny that I am a sucker for OEM manufacturer logos.

The back side of the front mats shows four retention patches that keeps the mat from sliding.

The 2nd row floor liner mat comes folded in three parts, but the thermoplastic elastomer material can be easily flattened.

Mat Installation & Fitment

Due to the fact that the mats are laser cut and fit very snug, combined with the large retention patches below the mat, it took a few tries to get everything perfectly aligned and fitted. Moving the seats all the way back helps free up space for the installation.

On the other hand, the passenger side floor liner mat was quite difficult to get into perfect position, mainly because of the rigid top right corner. It took me at least ten tries to get it properly seated as seen in the photo.

The 2nd row floor liner mat was by far the easiest to install. There’s no retention patches below the mat and it’s simply a matter of laying the mat down and tucking the front section of the mat beneath the seats rails.

Conclusions

Having put this redesigned Tesla All-Weather Interior Floor Mat Set to the test by using it on a couple of rare rainy days in Los Angeles, I am quite happy with how easily they clean up. The mats look great but more importantly adds protection to the factory carpet and can be wiped clean using a sponge and a wet cloth.

Interested buyers residing in the U.S. and Canada can purchase the mat set directly from the Tesla store, however customers outside of these regions will need to contact their nearest Service Center to confirm pricing and availability.
