Tesla updates Model S, X maintenance plan to include annual inspection

Tesla owners received an e-mail from the company yesterday notifying them of changes to the company’s Maintenance Plans and Extended Service Agreements. Here’s the opening paragraph:

“Tesla is pleased to announce new Maintenance Plans and Extended Service Agreements for North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific. These plans have been designed to provide peace of mind and optimize the performance and reliability of your Tesla. The new Maintenance Plans include annual service inspections that now cover additional services such as wheel alignment, and leverage the experience we have acquired from over 3 billion miles driven by the 180,000 Teslas on the road today. These plans can be purchased in your MyTesla account.”

Tesla Maintenance Plans

The new maintenance plans apply to both Model S and Model X drivers and now includes an annual inspection which covers additional services such as a wheel alignment. They cost less than the regular price of a standard service procedure the cost of paying for regular service and can be purchased after taking delivery of Tesla automobile. They are also transferable to a subsequent owner.

The basic option is a maintenance plan that covers the owner for 12 months or 12,500 miles. Additional plans include:

  • 3‑Year Maintenance Plan: 3 years or 37,500 miles (whichever occurs first) for a total of 3 annual service inspections
  • 4‑Year Maintenance Plan: 4 years or 50,000 miles (whichever occurs first) for a total of 4 annual service inspections

Tesla Extended Service Agreements

Within 30 days or 1,000 miles after the original factory warranty expires (whichever comes first), a Model S or Model X owner can purchase an extended service agreement to cover the repair or replacement of most parts if they become unsuitable for further service due to a manufacturing defect in materials or workmanship.

Under the new company policy, extended service agreements now include Roadside Assistance 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

New Extended Service Agreements now include Tesla’s highly-rated Roadside Assistance, giving owners additional peace of mind and safety in a roadside event, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for greater peace of mind. Agreements are also transferable to a subsequent owner. Agreements are available as follows

  • 2‑Year Extended Service Agreement: 2 years or 25,000 miles (whichever occurs first)
  • 4‑Year Extended Service Agreement: 4 years or 50,000 miles (whichever occurs first)
