Donald Trump says he will hire Elon Musk to lead the suggested “Government Efficiency Commission” and that Musk has already agreed to lead it.
On Thursday, Trump held a speech at the New York Economic Club, and although it has been discussed previously that Musk and the former President have talked about the Government Efficiency Commission, this is the first time he has confirmed its potential creation in public.
Trump said:
“I will create a government efficiency commission tasked with conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government and making recommendations for drastic reforms.”
Trump also said that Musk “has agreed” to lead the commission, which is supported by his own words during a podcast with Lex Friedman earlier this week:
Musk said in the interview he has already “discussed with Donald Trump the idea of a government efficiency commission” and said, “I would be willing to be part of that commission.”
Previously, Trump had indicated that he was not sure whether Musk would have time to have any capacity within the Former President’s cabinet should he be re-elected.
However, Musk seems to be enthusiastic about the idea, as he said today that he “looks forward to serving America if the opportunity arises.”
