Tesla saw a notable decline in the 2023 Axios Harris Poll 100 reputation rankings, which assess the reputation of some of America’s most prominent brands. Tesla fell 50 spots in the recent poll, with the electric vehicle maker now standing at No. 62 out of 100 companies. Tesla was listed at No. 12 in last year’s poll.
At No. 62, Tesla now belongs to the “Good” category, as per the poll’s score guide. A closer look at Tesla’s specific scores indicates that the company still received some “Excellent” scores, particularly in the categories of trajectory, vision, and products and services. Tesla also scored “Fair” in character, trust, and citizenship.
Joining Tesla in the “Good” category are other notable companies such as Delta Airlines, AT&T, The Walt Disney Company, Johnson & Johnson, McDonald’s, and Wendy’s. With its rank of No. 62, however, Tesla has been surpassed by several of its competitors in the auto sector, such as Ford, which ranked No. 32, Honda, which ranked No. 13, and Toyota, which ranked No. 6.
According to Axios, the 2023 Axios Harris Poll 100 reputation rankings are based on a survey of 16,310 individuals from a nationally representative sample. The study was conducted from March 13-28. Respondents were asked to identify the two companies with the best reputation today and the two with the worst reputation. The nominations were then compiled to determine the “most visible” companies. The publication noted that Harris has been using this framework since 1999.
Tesla is not the only Musk-led company listed in the 2023 Axios Harris Poll 100 reputation rankings. The CEO’s social media platform, Twitter, was also mentioned by the respondents of the study. However, Twitter ranked significantly lower than Tesla, with the social media platform being classified as “Poor” at No. 97, just above Fox Corporation, FTX, and The Trump Organization.
It should be noted that even a rank of No. 97 is already an improvement for Twitter, as the social media platform was listed as No. 98 in the 2022 Axios Harris Poll 100 reputation rankings. Last year’s poll was conducted before Musk’s acquisition of the company.
