The first steel beams are going up at Tesla’s under-construction Semi factory expansion at Gigafactory Nevada, as spotted in a video update this week.

On Monday, Tesla Giga Nevada observer Zanegler spotted construction crews putting up the first steel beams at the Semi factory expansion site. Notably, the account points out that construction crews aren’t putting the steel beams up with the use of traditional cranes, but rather with multiple boom lifts on which workers are stationed.

Tesla broke ground on the Giga Nevada expansion in January, with the larger project set to add dedicated production facilities for both the Semi and the 4680 battery cell upon completion. The project is eventually expected to add as many as 6,500 full-time workers to the roughly 12,000 currently working at the factory.

The company has been making a lot of progress on initial construction of the Semi factory over the last few months, with steel beams officially delivered to the site early last month. Footings for the building were going in as of August 8, just over a week after Semi Program Head Dan Priestley revealed a rendering of what the finished product is expected to look like.

Tesla is aiming to begin Semi production at the facility in the latter part of next year, and the company is hoping to begin external customer deliveries in early 2026. The company has already delivered a handful of early Semi units to customers such as PepsiCo, Costco, Martin Brower, Walmart, and others.

The construction progress also comes just after the first two Tesla Semis in Europe arrived at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg on Sunday. The company has said that it eventually plans to produce the Semi in Germany, in addition to being produced at the U.S. factory in Nevada.
