Tesla launches Uber integration for easy navigation for drivers

Tesla has officially launched Uber integration for easier navigation and convenience for drivers on its platform.

Tesla and Uber have enjoyed a strategic partnership in the past, as the ride-sharing platform has helped incentivize its drivers to use Tesla.

Earlier this year, it launched a program offering up to $2,000 for its drivers to purchase a Model 3 or Model Y.

Now, it seems it is giving drivers yet another reason to switch to Tesla, as it is now integrating Uber’s navigation and ride-sharing directly into the vehicle.

First spotted by Electrek, the partnership allows Uber drivers using a Tesla to accept rides from their phones. Once accepted, pickup and dropoff information, as well as navigation, will be display directly on the Tesla center screen:

“Enjoy bigger and bolder navigation. Once you accept a trip request on your phone, pickup and dropoff info will be sent to your Tesla screen automatically.”

Uber is also flexing the integration as a way to avoid range anxiety:

“When you connect the Uber app to your Tesla, you can enable battery-aware matching so you’ll only see trip requests within your Tesla’s battery range.”

It is compatible with both Android and iPhone, which is a big plus as the former brand’s smartphone users have been shorted in the past, being forced to wait until Tesla releases features, which is sometimes well after they do for the iPhone.

Uber drivers normally have their phones displayed on some sort of mount, doing everything from accepting rides to looking at navigation with the help of their smartphone.

The integration will now let parts of an Uber driver’s job be displayed on a center screen instead of forcing them to look at their phone for directions.

With the constant updates in Tesla’s navigation, this could be the most accurate way to get a ride, and could help avoid any delays thanks to Tesla’s live traffic visualization, granted the driver has Premium Connectivity.
