A pair of Tesla Semi units have been spotted at the Giga Berlin complex. A video of the two Class 8 all-electric trucks at the Grunheide-based Model Y factory was posted on YouTube by a longtime watcher of the facility.
Earlier this week, videos emerged showing the Tesla Semi on German roads. Initially, the clips being shared on social media showed one Tesla Semi being transported via trailer at the Autobahn in western Germany. Later posts on X revealed that there were actually two Tesla Semi units being transported at the time.
Longtime Giga Berlin watcher Tobias Lindh noted that he decided to do a quick drone flyover of the complex the day after reports of the Tesla Semi on the Autobahn emerged. Sure enough, the Tesla watcher was able to capture some footage of the two Class 8 all-electric trucks being unloaded from their trailers. Both vehicles were painted white, similar to the other Tesla Semi units that the company has been using for its operations in the United States.
While Tesla has not provided a comment about why the Semi has been sent to Germany, expectations are high that the two Class 8 all-electric trucks will be showcased at the upcoming IAA Transportation 2024 trade show, which is expected to be held from September 17 to 22, 2024 in Hannover, Germany. The organizers of the event have confirmed Tesla’s participation in a previous press release.
Tesla seems to be preparing for the release of the Semi in Europe. Apart from the vehicle’s impending participation at the IAA Transportation 2024 trade show, the company also recently posted a job opening for a Head of Business Development – Semi Truck EMEA on its Careers website. As per Tesla’s job listing, the individual who will be selected for the post will “regularly meet with prospective European Semi customers to understand their use cases, needs, and duty cycles.”
