Confirmed: Dual-Motor Technology To be Used for Model X SUV

The Model X is an official SUV with today’s reservation letter from Tesla Motors, where it states that the vehicle will have an optional tow hitch for skis and bikes.

Looks like Tesla Motors may avoid a sophomore slump after all and the Model X SUV will have gull-wing doors, per an Elon Musk tweet this morning, see below:

The letter says: With the Model S, we made a point of delivering a product that was even better than the show car, and we are extending that philosophy to Model X. In fact, every element of the Model X—from the interior to the falcon wing doors—either lives up to or surpasses the prototype we initially unveiled.

So the doors are here to stay, but manufacturing the Model X in 2015 in large numbers is still not settled. Morgan Stanley announced today that they have revised there guidance of Model X deliveries from 15,000 vehicles to 5,000.

The reservation letter mentions "that the company will be spending much of 2015 building and testing production-intent prototypes before delivering the first cars to customers in North America in the third quarter."

According the letter, Tesla is building Model X beta vehicles and crash testing these vehicles at the Fremont plant, and they revealed that SUV crossover will have an optional tow hitch to support accessories and racks.

From an investor and fan, it's great to hear that the falcon doors are staying. This vehicle could really attract a larger demographic and it will be fun to see perceptions form as the Model X hits the street in 2015, hopefully! What are your thoughts on the number of Model X deliveries for 2015? Will they hit 15,000 in 2015?
