Lamborghini CEO says ‘no more ICE vehicles’ past 2024

The Lamborghini CEO has announced that the iconic Italian supercar brand will no longer produce ICE vehicles past 2024.

While the world of consumer vehicles has quickly pivoted toward EVs, the same cannot be said about the market of vehicles for the ultra-wealthy. Supercars and hypercars remain an ICE-dominated marketplace. However, according to the Lamborghini CEO, that won’t be the case for long, as his brand will no longer produce ICE vehicles past 2024.

The Lamborghini CEO made the statement in an interview with Forbes this morning, outlining the current market position of the brand and its future plans.

“By the end of the year 2024, no ICE cars will be offered at Lamborghini,” said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini. Lamborghini plans to solely produce PHEV vehicles starting in 2024 and will introduce its first 100% electric vehicle in 2028.

This announcement follows the Italian’s best year on record. The supercar maker reported a record number of deliveries during the year, 9,233, likely influenced by customers attempting to scoop up the final 100% gas-powered vehicles the brand plans to produce. Furthermore, with the production of the Lamborghini Aventador finally coming to an end, customers were only more enticed to buy.

Thus far, Lamborghini has not outlined what its first EV will look like. Still, with the brand’s relationship with Volkswagen Group, it is likely that the Italian brand could share a platform with others in the European auto group, including Bentley, Porsche, and Audi.

As for Lamborghini’s PHEV platform, more details have been made available. Earlier this month, Lamborghini revealed its incredible tri-motor PHEV platform, which is set to produce just over 1000 horsepower, thanks to its pairing with a massive 6.5 liter V12, an iconic staple of the brand.

Lamborghini is expected to reveal the entire car and its name by the end of this month, but with an 18-month waiting list to buy essentially any of the company’s vehicles, don’t get your hopes up too quickly.
