A Tesla Cybertruck owner is thanking his vehicle’s steer-by-wire system for helping him avoid what could very well have been a serious collision. The Tesla owner noted that his aggressive, evasive maneuver could have resulted in him possibly fishtailing or even rolling had he been driving his combustion-powered pickup truck.
An account of the incident, as well as footage from the Cybertruck’s cameras, was posted by Lucky’s Fab Shop at the Cybertruck Owners Club. As per the all-electric pickup truck’s driver, he was on his way to get his EMT/OET recertification when a Dodge minivan crashed into a Ford sedan at high speed. With the Ford sedan flying straight at the Cybertruck, the Tesla owner noted that he cranked the steering wheel hard and fast to almost full lock to avoid the vehicle.
Footage of the accident showed that the Ford sedan came very close to hitting the Cybertruck after it was rear-ended by the Dodge minivan. The response from the Cybertruck’s steer-by-wire system was very quick, and the vehicle remained stable with very minimal body roll. The Cybertruck driver noted that had he been in his Ram pickup, he would likely have spun out of control and rolled due to his evasive maneuver.

“The Cybertruck was stable, very minimal body roll, and the drive-by steering combined with the four-wheel steer reacted fast enough and just enough to do what I wanted and nothing more that could have caused me to wreck. Had I been in my Ram, I would have either hit the car to my right at the stop sign, oversteered and had to countersteer and would have either spun out, ditched it, or worse rolled it,” the Tesla owner wrote in his post.
Fortunately for the people involved in the accident, the Tesla owner and another motorist quickly checked up on the drivers of the Dodge minivan and Ford sedan. Both drivers were reportedly in shock, though the driver of the Ford sedan was hurt the most. Thanks to the video from the Cybertruck’s cameras, police were able to get a clear account of the incident as well.
