Tesla Motors – Fourth Quarter & Full Year 2014 Shareholder Letter
Pre-earnings Look
Model X, Model X, Model X
One of the biggest items to look out for during the earnings call is whether the highly-anticipated Model X will be on track for delivery towards Q3 of this year. Or will it be pushed back yet again following a succession of delays rumored to be related to the complex design of the falcon wing doors. With the recent spy shots of the Tesla Model X seen testing across a California naval air station, there’s hope that the electric crossover SUV will enter the production line within the next several months.
2015 Guidance
Following Musk’s announcement that China Model S sales have been softer than expected, combined with delays of the Model X, shareholders will be looking to see whether Model S production will meet the forecasted 50k deliveries in 2015.
Gigafactory Progress
Pictures of the Gigafactory reveal that development on the $5 Billion battery factory is well underway. This validates Tesla’s announcement from its Q3 letter that Gigafactory construction was ahead of schedule. “Starting operations earlier will reduce ramp-up risks for Model 3 and provide some potential expansion capacity for Model S and Model X,” Tesla said in the letter.
