Elon Musk teased the next iteration of Tesla’s humanoid robot Optimus 2.0 on X recently.
“The new Optimus design, which will be complete later this year, is something special,” Musk replied to an X post.
In June, Tesla shared a few updates about Optimus and the milestones the humanoid robot has reached over the past year. According to Tesla, Optimus has already undergone three major design revisions. The humanoid robot’s hand were revised four times in the last two years.
This is a full-stack AGI integration play for Elon.

The new design Musk recently teased will likely be closer to Optimus’ final appearance, but there is still some work to be done. However, it might not be too long before we see Optimus in action, as Tesla stated that the humanoid robot navigates autonomously daily in offices and labs. At least two Optimus bots were already deployed at one of Tesla’s factories, performing tasks autonomously.
During the first quarter TSLA earnings call, Elon Musk estimated that Tesla could start selling Optimus externally by the end of 2025.
“We are able to do simple factory tasks or at least, I should say, factory tasks in the lab. We do think we will have Optimus in limited production in the natural factory itself, doing useful tasks before the end of this year. And then I think we may be able to sell it externally by the end of next year. These are just guesses,” said Musk in Q1.
At the end of the second quarter, Musk shared that Tesla plans to rent out Optimus robot ahead of sales. Eventually, Tesla’s Optimus robots will be available to rent or purchase.
