It has been speculated for months where Tesla will build its next production facility in the country, as it has been all but confirmed that it would land somewhere in Mexico. Monterrey is located in the state of Nuevo Leon, where Tesla has been rumored to be building the plant for several months.
The location confirmation comes just one day before Tesla was expected to announce the new plant’s placement at tomorrow’s Investor Day, where the automaker will detail several things regarding future expansion plans and how it plans to scale EV production through the next few years.
Tesla was planning to build a site in either Canada, Indonesia, South Korea, or Mexico, and it detailed last year that it would announce the new facility’s location by the end of 2022. However, the details regarding the plant’s location, as well as which region would be most ideal to support the energy and infrastructure needs of the new factory, were not finalized until earlier this month.
In fact, there was even concern that Nuevo Leon would not be able to support the production of Tesla’s electric vehicles due to potential water shortages. However, it seems CEO Elon Musk and President Lopez Obrador’s conversation yesterday solidified that the site can support the needs of the company.
