Tesla Model Y with mysterious deep red paint spotted at Giga Texas

A recent drone flyover of the Tesla Giga Texas complex included something rather interesting. In one section of the facility where castings are kept, a red Tesla Model Y was caught on camera. The vehicle seemed to be painted in a deep red shade that’s yet to be released by the electric vehicle maker.

Tesla’s current vehicle lineup features only a few paint options. As can be seen on the Model Y’s order page in the United States, the vehicle is offered in Stealth Gray, Pearl White Multi-Coat, Deep Blue Metallic, Solid Black, Quicksilver, or Ultra Red paint. Ultra Red, which costs a $2,000 premium, was rolled out in March 2023 for the Model S and Model X and later released for the Model 3 and Model Y.

Ultra Red replaced Tesla’s previous Red Multi-Coat paint, which featured a bright shade of red, though it does not feature a shade that’s as deep as Giga Berlin’s Midnight Cherry Red. The Model Y that was sighted in the recent drone flyover at Giga Texas, which was shared by longtime Tesla watcher Joe Tegtmeyer, was painted in a darker shade than Ultra Red.

Granted, Tesla has also brought over a Midnight Cherry Red Model Y to Giga Texas in the past. However, the recently sighted Model Y was painted with a shade that looked brighter than the Giga Berlin-made paint. It does, if any, look almost identical to one of Tesla’s first trademark paint options, Signature Red, which was released for the Model S and Model X. Tesla has not released a Signature Red option since the Model 3 started its initial deliveries.

While Tesla’s color options for its vehicles have been pretty conservative over the years, there is little doubt that the electric vehicle maker is quite fond of the color red. And considering that the Model Y that was recently spotted in Giga Texas looked like it was painted in a shade that’s neither Ultra Red nor Midnight Cherry Red, one could perhaps infer that Tesla may be looking to release another red paint option that would make its vehicles even more eye-catching than before.
