Tesla CEO Elon Musk will present an award to the Italian Prime Minister in New York, along with the two reportedly scheduling a separate meeting to discuss investment opportunities.

On Monday evening, Musk will introduce and present a Global Citizen Award to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on behalf of think tank the Atlantic Council. The ceremony comes as the United Nations (UN) wraps up General Assembly meetings on Monday, during which Heads of State and Government have met in New York to “address the critical challenges and gaps in global governance exposed by recent global shocks.”

Earlier this month, Bloomberg also reported that Musk and Meloni will have a closed-door discussion on potential investments in Italy for the AI and space industries. The discussion will follow recently passed legislation in Italy letting foreign space companies operate in the country.

Meloni is being honored with the Atlantic Council Global Citizen Award alongside President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and CJ Group Vice Chairwoman Miky Lee, as detailed on the organization’s website.

Past award recipients include Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.

Musk and Meloni have met and brushed shoulders multiple times over the last couple of years, most recently including the SpaceX head’s appearance at the Italian far-right political conference Atreju, as hosted by Meloni’s party, the Brothers of Italy, and Italian media outlet il Giornale.

During the appearance, Musk delivered answers to interview questions on falling birth rates, AI, and government rules and regulations, echoing those of a meeting between him and Meloni in June 2023.  Musk has also met with a number of world leaders in the past few years, with the CEO just last week hosting El Salvador President Nayib Bukele for a visit to Tesla’s Gigafactory in Texas.
