Tesla driver earns license, then has it revoked because of Full Self-Driving

A Tesla driver won her license in Arizona after using her parents’ Model Y for the test.

However, when she arrived the next day to retrieve her pass to newfound freedom, the State’s Department of Transportation employees revoked her passing grade because the tester thought she was using Full Self-Driving during the test.

A post made in the Tesla Model Y subreddit from u/theduke432 described the scenario, as their daughter was finally able to take her driving test. Computers at the DMV were down, so they were asked to return the following day to get her physical copy of her license.

But things did not go as planned:

“When she and my wife returned today, they were pulled out of line and told that my daughter would not be getting her license because the tester thought she was using FSD. When my wife explained that our car doesn’t have FSD they backtracked and said that because she didn’t touch the brake pedal enough and they thought the car was auto braking. She explained how regen worked but they refused to issue a license.”

The person telling the story said they received an explanation of, “If we don’t know she can brake with the brake pedal, then how do we know she can drive a non-Tesla.”

There was also talk of banning Teslas altogether from driving exams because they have “too many safety features.”

The story was first seen by Not a Tesla App.

This is not the first time Teslas have been criticized in terms of the licensing process. In January, we reported on the lack of stalks being looked at as a potential hazard by a Norwegian driving school.

Tesla’s turn signals are causing havoc at Norwegian driving schools

The Harstad Traffic School found that new drivers had issues activating the turn signal buttons and were prone to perform better with cars that had stalks.

As for the situation in Arizona, the driver was able to get her license, but there are apparently talks on how the driving test will be administered.

As ridiculous as it is, this story proves that people still have no idea about the capabilities or the true use of FSD.
