Tesla Model S P100D drag races Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4

It hasn’t even been a week since one of the first deliveries of a Model S P100D took place in Palm Beach, Florida, and now comes the first drag racing video showing Tesla’s amazing 760 horsepower sedan duke it out against a Lamborghini. Early tests by DragTimes using a VBOX performance meter showed that the Model S P100D did in fact match Tesla’s claimed 0-60 mph time of 2.5 seconds. But how does this match up in a classic drag race against a vehicle of similar performance?

The folks at DragTimes pit their Lamborghini Huracan LP610-4 against the Model S P100D in a heads up drag race to find out. Like the dual motor Model S, the Huracan is all wheel drive and has a claimed zero to 60 mph time of 2.8 seconds. Videos from DragTimes show that the Lambo had posted a 10.725 second 1/4 mile run in the past which is comparable to the P100D’s 10.78 second 1/4 mile logged using the VBOX.

Not surprisingly, the instantaneous torque of the Tesla allows it to get an initial jump on the 3,419-pound V-10 naturally aspirated Lambo, but what happens next is surprising. The Model S manages to fend off the Italian supercar until much later into the race.
