The Kia EV6 GT is reportedly poised to receive a feature that has become a trademark of the acclaimed Hyundai Ioniq 5 N. As per a recent report, the Kia EV6 GT will be adopting the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N’s simulated seven-speed transmission feature.
Citing a source reportedly familiar with the matter, motoring publication Carscoops claimed that the Kia EV6 GT will be receiving the Ioniq 5 N’s fake engine sounds later this year. The publication’s source, however, claimed that the EV6 GT would not get all of the functions of the Ioniq 5 N’s simulated seven-speed transmission system. This is reportedly because the vehicle is designed more as a GT car — not a hot hatch that can be driven like a maniac like the Ioniq 5 N.
The current Kia EV6 GT offers 576 hp of power, which is lower than the 641 hp offered by the Ioniq 5N. The Ioniq 5 N delivers a steady 601 hp, but it also has the option to get a 40 hp boost for 10 seconds using its N-Grin Boost feature. As per Carscoops, the Kia EV6 GT might get the Ioniq 5 N’s 601 hp, but it may not have its Hyundai cousin’s N-Grin Boost system. The publication also speculated that the EV6 GT may not be rolled out with the Ioniq 5 N’s N Drift Optimizer function.
The Kia EV6 is a great all-electric vehicle, and earlier this year, the automaker took the wraps off its facelifted version. The EV6 facelift features a fresh exterior inspired by the EV9, and it also sports a fresh interior with some tech upgrades. It even has an 84 kWh battery, which is larger than the 77.4 kWh battery pack that was equipped in the vehicle’s first iteration. At the time, reports also indicated that Kia was working on a facelifted version of the flagship EV6 GT.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N’s simulated seven-speed transmission has been received very well by the automotive industry. As per Road & Track in its review of the all-electric hot hatch, “There are so many ways that Hyundai could have gotten this wrong, and only one way it could go right. They’ve hit a hole-in-one on a par four. Because the lie is so convincing, after a few seconds, I didn’t care that it wasn’t real. The lie gave me what I needed in order to have fun in a car on a racetrack or a canyon road: engagement.”
