Porsche and ‘Star Wars’ announce partnership with Taycan-Space Pod ad

Porsche has announced a partnership with popular the iconic “Star Wars” franchise in an announcement on the German automaker’s Twitter.

The Taycan and the popular Pod Racer, made famous in Star Wars 1999 film The Phantom Menace partner up in the quick ad spot, showcasing the speed and elusiveness of both vehicles. While the Pod Racer is obviously fictional, the Taycan Turbo S is very real, and its impressive speed, acceleration, and sustainable features make it one of the best performance electric vehicles on the market today.

Porsche has found an opportunity to market its all-electric sports car with the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, a film coming to movie theaters across the United States on December 20.

Porsche announced its introductory EV in the Taycan in early September at its unveiling event in Toronto, Canada. The Taycan comes in a multitude of different options. At first, Porsche released the Turbo and Turbo S trims for potential owners to consider, but not everyone who wants the Porsche name and the sustainability of an electric vehicle can afford the price of these trims.

Porsche recently released the Taycan 4S, a vehicle that will rival the Turbo and Turbo S in terms of performance but will also cost around 20% less. As the Turbo and Turbo S variants cost $N150,900 and $185,000 respectively, the 4S will cost $103,800 for the Performance Battery and $110,380 for the Performance Battery Plus.

Star Wars and Porsche both match the quality of a product that consumers expect. While Porsche has gained the reputation of a car company that matches speed and performance with luxury, Star Wars has become one of the biggest movie franchises of all-time. But why has a luxury automaker decided to pair itself with a widely popular movie series?

Perhaps the angle Porsche is looking for has something to do with the fact that last month, Elon Musk announced Tesla vehicles would be functional in outer space due to the fact they do not need oxygen or air to operate, unlike their ICE counterparts. Maybe one day when the human race has been forced to migrate to a different planet, humans occupying Mars and the Moon will drive to intergalactic supermarkets and movie theaters in vehicles specifically manufactured by both Tesla and Porsche.
