A recent announcement from Grünheide (Oder-Spree) has revealed that chemical weapons have been found in Tesla Giga Berlin’s planned expansion site. The recovery of the recently-discovered chemical weapons is expected to last from Monday to Thursday, August 19-22, 2024.
As noted by Grünheide Mayor Arne Christiani in an announcement, “chemical warfare agents were found in development plan area No. 60 “Freienbrink Nord Service and Logistics Center.” Following the weapons’ recovery, the substances will then be packaged for removal, then loaded and transported away for disposal.
The recovery of the recently-discovered chemical weapons in Giga Berlin’s planned expansion site is expected to start on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. An exclusion zone would be set up for the recovery project, so residents in the area could expect some roads and transport services to be affected, as noted in an rbb24 report.
The Grünheide mayor noted in his announcement that the planned disposal of the chemical weapons is structured in such a way that disruptions to the area’s residents are kept to a minimum. The official also asked the public to not do anything that would hinder the recovery, retrieval, and transportation of the chemical weapons.
“The ordnance disposal is planned in such a way that the restrictions for all those affected are kept to a minimum. If the planned measure runs smoothly, the restrictions can be expected to end sooner. We therefore ask all those affected not to hinder the rescue operation, to take into account the restrictions for August 19, 2024, August 20, 2024, August 21, 2024, and August 22, 2024, and to ask all road users to avoid this area,” Christiani wrote.
Tesla Giga Berlin has matured into one of the region’s most notable employers. In a recent announcement on its official LinkedIn account, the IHK Ostbrandenburg, one of the largest economic interest groups between Berlin and the Oder, noted that people from 120 different nations now work at the Model Y factory. The group also noted that Giga Berlin has the lowest water consumption per vehicle produced in the industry, and the most number of onsite electric vehicle charging stations.
