Tesla has been deploying its Actually Smart Summon (ASS) software over the past few weeks, and while it has been rolling out somewhat widely, the company’s Autopilot Director recently provided an update as to when owners of legacy Model S and Model X vehicles can expect to see the software.
The highly-anticipated ASS feature lets owners remotely summon their vehicles from a parking spot, and while some were concerned it would only be going out to Teslas with Hardware 4 (HW4), the software quickly began rolling out the HW3-equipped vehicles. Since then, however, some legacy Model S and X owners have been asking when or if Autopark or ASS would be going out to their vehicles, and they finally got an answer on Monday.
In a response on X, Tesla Autopilot Director Ashok Elluswamy said that the ASS feature will go out to legacy Model S and X vehicles in the fourth quarter, which will officially begin on Tuesday. While he didn’t comment on exactly when the groups would receive the feature during the quarter, at least owners can expect to receive the software by the end of this year.

In addition to asking about ASS, the original post from longtime legacy Model S and X advocate Anthony Spina also requested details on Autopark, though Elluswamy didn’t say anything beyond sharing the timeline for ASS rollout to legacy Model S and X owners.
Legacy Model S and X vehicles came with the pre-HW3 Intel-based media control units (MCUs) computers, first dubbed MCU1, and later dubbed MCU2 and offered as an upgrade retrofit for MCU1-equipped vehicles. Tesla has since upgraded to a Ryzen processor with the so-called HW3 and HW4 in its newer cars.
Owners with the pre-refresh models also wondered when they could expect to get Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised v12, though Tesla began rolling the software out to these vehicles earlier this year.
