Tesla CEO Elon Musk took a trip to Nuevo León, Mexico, this weekend, where he was spotted talking with a state official and the wife of Governor Samuel García Sepulveda, Mariana Rodríguez. There have been reports of officials wanting Elon Musk to invest in Nuevo León as well as reports of officials visiting Giga, Texas, in April.
In photos shared by local media outlets Reforma and El Mañana, Elon Musk is seen talking with the Undersecretary of Investment of the Ministry of Economy, Emmanuel Loo, and with Rodríguez. Another source told Reforma that Garcia wants Elon Musk to invest in Nuevo León.
In June, Tesla was granted its own exclusive lane at the U.S.-Mexico border crossing in Nuevo León, which borders the U.S. for ten miles. Ivan Rivas, the Economy Minister of Nuevo León, told Bloomberg that it was an easy incentive.
“What we want is a crossing that’s much more expedited and efficient. And maybe there will be a lane for other companies in the future like there is for Tesla,” Rivas said.
The region is also home to several Tesla suppliers These include Taiwanese companies EnFlex Corp. and Quanta Computer. Germany’s Germany’s ZF Friedrichshafen AG and APG, as well as French firm, Faurecia SE, are also in Nuevo León, which is known for being supportive of businesses and business growth.

In April 2022, García Sepulveda visited Giga, Texas, according to the deputy secretary. “In April of this year, García Sepulveda made a work tour in the state of Texas and visited the Tesla factory located in Austin. He said that it was to endorse the agreement for the electric vehicle manufacturer to export its vehicles and products through the Colombia Bridge,” Loo said.
“We came to endorse this agreement, that all the assembly, products, and all the exportation of cars made in California and Texas (by Tesla) will cross the Colombia Bridge,” the governor said.
While at Giga, Texas, García Sepulveda, was accompanied by the minister of the Environment, Alfonso Martínez, and the minister of Regional and Agricultural Development, Marco Gonzalez. The officials toured the 10 million square foot factory to learn about the different processes of the plant.
“Today we came to show them the Interserrana highway, the Periferico, the Gloria-Colombia highway, the North highway, and the modernization of what is going to be the Port (Colombia), the most important customs office in Mexico,” said Garcia Sepulveda.
