General Motors (GM) recently confirmed that the Cadillac OPTIQ electric vehicle (EV) will be built in Mexico.
The legacy automaker’s Mexican subsidiary confirmed the news about the Cadillac OPTIQ EV’s production to Cluster Industrial. OPTIQ production is expected to start by the fourth quarter of 2024.
General Motors’ new all-electric luxury SUV will join the company’s EV lineup, which includes the LYRIQ, ESCALADE IQ, CELESTIQ, and the upcoming VISTIQ–due to debut next year.
The OPTIQ EV will build on the GM LYRIQ. It will be built at General Motors’ Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico. The plant is reportedly GM’s most advanced factory in Mexico, having been upgraded to produce the automaker’s next-generation electric vehicles.
“The Ramos Arizpe Complex received a $1 billion investment in 2021 for the production of electric cars, as the fifth General Motors North America plant to produce EVs,” said GM Mexico’s Communications Department to local press. “Recently, Cadillac announced in Paris the launch of Optiq, which will also be produced in the Ramos Arizpe plant in the last quarter of the year,” said GM.
Cadillac estimates that the dual-motor OPTIQ all-wheel drive (AWD) variant will have 300 miles of range. DC fast charging is expected to add up to 79 miles of range in about 10 minutes. Regen-on-demand and one-pedal driving is also available with the OPTIQ EV.
The base model will also come standard with 3 years of GM’s Super Cruise connected service. The dual-motor AWD OPTIQ includes an 85 kWh battery pack, which Cadillac expects to offer 300 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of instant torque.
Cadillac will offer two OPTIQ EV trims, Luxury and Sport. The base OPTIQ EV will start at an estimated $54,000, including destination charges. However, dealers will set the final price.
