Elon Musk has revealed the official launch date for Tesla’s “Cyberpunk” Pickup Truck. According to the CEO, the upcoming vehicle would be released on November 21, 2019 at the SpaceX rocket factory in Hawthorne, CA.
Musk’s update formally ends a period of speculations that have long swept the electric car community with regards to the unveiling of the Tesla Pickup Truck. The CEO, after all, has praised the vehicle as one of his personal favorites. Yet, despite this, Tesla has been able to keep details of the Cybertruck secret, with zero sightings or spy shots of the vehicle to date.
Apart from the lack of spy shots, Tesla has also been very secretive about the vehicle’s design. Save for the pickup truck’s initial teaser from the Model Y unveiling, there have been no other preview images of the vehicle that have emerged so far. No invites have been sent out as well. With Musk formally announcing the vehicle, it would likely be just a matter of time before invites for the Tesla Pickup Truck unveiling will be sent out.
While the design of the pickup truck remains elusive, the vehicle has been hyped by both Elon Musk and his brother, Kimbal. In a recent tweet, Kimbal added some more excitement to the pickup truck’s unveiling date by stating that he is most excited about the vehicle since the Model S, the first electric car that Tesla built from the ground-up.
Based on Elon Musk’s comments about the vehicle, as well as his references to the vehicle’s design being somewhat akin to a futuristic armored personnel carrier, it appears that the “Cybertruck” will be the first off-road-capable vehicle in Tesla’s lineup, unlike the city cars that are the Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y. This further suggests that the truck would be a tough vehicle, capable of taking some real punishment on the road.
Quite remarkably, Elon Musk has noted that the base variant of the Tesla Pickup Truck will have a starting price of $49,000. In an appearance on Tesla owner-enthusiast Ryan McCaffrey’s Ride the Lightning Podcast, Musk noted that Tesla is looking to ensure that the Cybertruck will be attainable for customers. “You should be able to buy a really great truck for $49k or less,” he said.
