Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is Car & Driver’s ‘2024 EV of the Year’

Car & Driver (C&D) named the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N its “2024 Electric Vehicle (EV) of the Year.” The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5 N, with an MSRP of $67,495, received a 10 out of 10 Car and Driver rating.

“The electric IONIQ 5 is one impressive machine but that isn’t keeping Hyundai from cooking up a high-voltage N model for those who want maniacal performance.

“And like other gas-fired models from the company’s N performance brand, the IONIQ 5 N delivers its thrills at a high-value price poiint—which makes it a shoo-in for our 2024 EV of the Year award,” wrote Car and Driver in its overview for the IONIQ 5 N.

The IONIQ 5 N is Hyundai’s first attempt to electrify its “N” series. Hyundai’s gas-powered “N” models are everyday sports cars with racetrack capabilities. C&D tested the IONIQ 5 N’s capabilities on a racing circuit in South Korea. It found that Hyundai’s electric N model performed as well as expected.

“…we found that the 5 N does a commendable job of tracking straight during all-out launches and under hard ABS engagement on mixed-traction surfaces. Handling is balanced and controllable when you want it to be, but the drift mode allows you to hang the tail out when you want to have more funds,” said Car and Driver

The IONIQ 5 N has gained a lot of recognition since its unveiling. In February, for instance, it was a finalist in the 2024 World Car Awards. The success of the IONIQ 5 N might have pushed Hyundai to continue creating all-electric N models but with its Kia brand.
