In a recent interview, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin revealed that Tesla is willing to invest $5 billion in a factory in Thailand. Prime Minister Srettha revealed in an exclusive interview with a local media outlet that representatives from Tesla will be arriving in Thailand to inspect factory locations.
Earlier this month, Srettha visited Tesla’s Fremont Factory in California. After his visit, the Thai Prime Minister expressed his wish to see more of Tesla’s presence in Thailand.
The Tesla representatives will also take the time to experience Thailand’s culture and traditions. The Prime Minister will accompany Tesla executives to the Yi Peng festival in Chiang Mai.
Thailand’s negotiations with Tesla will be a crucial move toward its goal. The Thai government seeks investments to promote specific industries, including aerospace, digital, and AI. Tesla would be a significant win since CEO Elon Musk has a strong foothold in most—if not all—of those industries.
In September, Srettha met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk. During their meeting, the Thai Prime Minister and Musk discussed Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink.
“Met with Elon Musk and team during my trip to #UNGA in New York. We had a good conversation on Tesla, SpaceX, and Starlink technology,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X.
“I am impressed with the advance the group has made for humanity, and we share a common view of the future for a cleaner world. We look forward to further discussions. Look forward to more inspirational successes of the #EV and Space Exploration breakthrough – for not only Thais but also the global community,” Thailand’s Prime Minister wrote.
