Elon Musk’s former property in California, Gene Wilder’s home, is back on the market for $12.95 million.

Musk financed 95% of Gene Wilder’s house when he sold it a few years ago. Wilder’s nephew Jordan Walker-Pearlman and his wife Elizabeth Hunter were able to purchase the home through finance. The estate was sold for $7 million to Pearlman and Elizabeth Hunter, a screenwriter and TV producer who has worked on hit shows including Charmed and Empire. Pearlman has been a director since 2015.

According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Gene Wilder’s home was hit with a notice of default last month. The The Los Angeles County Consumer and Business Affairs explained that the notice of default informs the recipient of the amount they owe, including missing payments and foreclosure fees.

WSJ reported that Pearlman and his wife were not up-to-date with paying their $6.7 million loan from Elon Musk. The SpaceX CEO had given them four years to pay the loan. The publication noted that Pearlman and his wife could not keep up with payments because of the 2023 Hollywood strikes.

Musk used an entity to file for the notice of default, which Pearlman emphasized was not filed in a mean-spirited way. Musk can pursue a forced sale 90 days after the notice’s issuance. However, people close to the matter report that the billionaire has no plans to force a sale.

“Elon gave us a magical opportunity. I have no complaints,” said Pearlman.

Gene Wilder is best known for portraying the titular character in ‘Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.’ Elon Musk purchased Wilder’s iconic home and sold it in 2020.

In 2020, the Tesla CEO announced that he would not own a home and would sell nearly all his physical possessions. Musk only had one stipulation: “I own Gene Wilder’s old house. It cannot be torn down or lose any [of] its soul.”
