Ford F-150 Lightning XLT gets price cut with $7,500 tax credit

Ford cut the price of its all-electric pickup truck, the F-150 Lightning XLT, with an extended-range battery. The Ford F-150 Lightning’s price cut makes the electric pickup even more affordable, considering it now qualifies for the tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

Ford lowered the price of the F-150 Lightning XLT with Extended Range battery by $2,100. The Lightning XLT now starts at $78,875. The price cut makes the XLT variant eligible for the IRA’s $7,500 tax credit since its MSRP falls below $80,000.

The Lightning XLT with extended range battery comes with a 9.6 kW Pro Power onboard Ford Co-Pilot Assist 2.0. The electric pickup’s key features are its signature front lighting, 360-degree camera, and interior work surface.

The variant’s signature front lighting comes with a high-tech flair, LED lighting design that wraps around the headlamps of the pickup, extending across the entire hood. While the XLT’s 360-degree cameras provide a bird’s-eye view of the truck. The Lightning XLT uses four cameras to get a bird’s-eye view: one is in the grille, one is in the tailgate, and one is placed under each side-view mirror. Lastly, the Lightning XLT has a stow-away shifter, allowing drivers to turn their electric pickup into a mobile office when needed.

A few other Ford Lightning variants also qualify for the IRA’s $7,500 credit. The XLT with Standard Range Battery also qualifies for the tax incentive with a starting price of $64,474. The Lightning Pro makes the list, too, starting at $59,974. However, the Pro variant is listed as “sold out for 23MY” in Ford’s configurator. The Lightning Lariat with Standard Range battery also qualifies for the IRA tax credit with a starting price of $76,974.

Ford has been facing challenges with the F-150 Lightning as it ramps production. Earlier this month, Teslarati reported about the F-150 Lightning’s supply issues regarding door handles, which limited production. Despite the obstacles, however, the Lightning seems to be a hit. Even Tesla CEO Elon Musk has praised the Ford F-150 Lightning.
