Ford CEO: ‘There’s no bigger obstacle than charging’

Now might be the right time to purchase an electric vehicle (EV) from Ford. The legacy automaker is offering free EV home chargers to customers who buy a new electric vehicle. Ford also provides free installation for those EV chargers.

Ford’s free EV home charger and installation are available to customers who purchase or lease a Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, or E-Transit van. The offer starts on October 1, 2024, and lasts until the end of the year.

Despite this year’s EV slowdown, Ford decided to restrategize. It is focusing on improving access to EV chargers and addressing concerns related to battery range and price.

“There’s no bigger obstacle than charging,” Ford CEO Jim Farley told Reuters

After taking two EV road trips across Europe and the Western United States, Farley learned more about customer concerns. Charging was one of the issues brought up during his journey.

“We spend all this time in the industry talking about charging on the road, and yet we kind of overlooked the most basic charging solution for America,” Farley said.

The Ford CEO interacted with customers who owned a fleet of EVs from the legacy automaker’s lineup in Europe. Besides charging, Farley identified Ford services as an area that needs improvements.
