LG Energy Solution (LGES) announces plans to offer battery diagnostic software to global automakers amidst electric vehicle (EV) fire safety concerns in South Korea.
On August 21, 2024, LG Energy Solution announced that it would expand its battery safety diagnostic software business and seek global automakers as clients. An LGES official explained that the current EV fire concerns gripping South Korea are putting pressure on automakers to improve battery safety. As such, LGES will offer global automakers its battery safety diagnostic software.
“Global carmakers are increasingly focusing on safety diagnosis technologies, but it takes enormous time and resources for any firm to develop a reliable level of relevant software.
“But LG Energy Solution already has enough datasets and patents, surprising those from any other carmakers. Our Software can be applied to BMS for EVs. We will actively collaborate with car makers to ensure driver safety,” stated an LGES.
LGES’ recent announcement is a response to a recent fire caused by an electric Mercedes-Benz. The luxury EV caught fire in an underground parking facility of an apartment complex. The blaze damaged over 100 vehicles in the parking lot and was difficult to put out, taking firefighters hours to extinguish.
Following the Mercedes-Benz fire, South Korea’s environment ministry called an emergency meeting to discuss EV fire safety concerns. The fire has caused many South Koreans to worry about EV battery safety.
