Electrify America has announced it has placed its first charger in Hawaii.
Electrify America, much like numerous other EV charging networks in the United States, has been on a non-stop mission of establishing new EV charging locations throughout the country. Now, EA has finally reached Hawaii, placing its first charger in Pearl City, just west of Honolulu, on the island of O’ahu.
Electrify America’s newest charging location features four chargers, each capable of charging at 150kW. Electrify America now reaches customers in 47 states but plans to reach 49 by 2026, including 1,800 charging locations and over 10,000 chargers. The three states that currently lack EA chargers are Alaska, North Dakota, and Vermont.
Two more EA chargers are set to be placed on Hawaii’s capital island, one in Honolulu and the other in Kapolei, on the western coast of O’ahu.
Currently, Electrify America operates 800 charging locations and a total of 3,479 chargers, showing that it has a lot of growing to do to achieve its size goal. Luckily, with an investment of $2 billion from Volkswagen Group, the charging network is set to continue to expand rapidly.
Lucky for EV owners in Hawaii, there are numerous other options for charging, at least on the more populous island of O’ahu. Chargepoint, Volta Charge, and Tesla have all established multiple charging locations and have plans to introduce more in the coming months and years. Only 1 Tesla Supercharger exists in the Hawaiian islands but is paired with ten destination chargers. Tesla plans to open two more Superchargers, one in Kaneohe, O’ahu, and another in Kahului, Maui.
