Recent court filings have revealed that Elon Musk’s social media platform X has relocated its headquarters to Bastrop, Texas. The social media company’s move to Bastrop was highlighted by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in a post on X.
The relocation of X to Bastrop was initially reported by Forbes, which noted that the company had leased a property in the city to be its official headquarters. Bastrop may seem like a curious choice for X’s headquarters considering that Musk’s biggest company, Tesla, is headquartered in Austin, but it does make sense.
As noted in a report from the Austin American-Statesman, Elon Musk’s other companies have already laid down some roots in Bastrop. Musk, after all, is involved with several large ventures. So, while Tesla is headquartered in Austin, his other companies, such as The Boring Company and SpaceX, have already established a presence in the city.

Here's why.https://t.co/ofLRZ9t1w9 via @statesman
SpaceX, for example, is currently building the Hyperloop Plaza, which is expected to be a work-live community for Musk’s employees. Bastrop also hosts a factory for Starlink, which is estimated to be capable of producing 90,000 Starlink broadband terminals per week, or 4.68 million units annually.
While Elon Musk is a polarizing figure, few can deny the fact that his companies provide employment for hundreds of thousands of people. It is then unsurprising that officials such as Texas Governor Greg Abbott have shown their support for the CEO’s efforts to relocate more of his businesses to the Lone Star state.

Musk has grown more fond of Texas over the years, particularly amidst his falling out with California officials. Musk has publicly criticized CA Governor Gavin Newsom over the state’s LGBTQ+ legislation. Musk has also clashed with officials during the height of the pandemic, which culminated in former CA Assemblywoman Lorena S. Gonzales posting “F*ck Elon Musk” on X, then called Twitter. Musk responded to Gonzales’ comment with a short “Message received.”
